First things first... If you are going to continue homeschooling through this pandemic, then you MUST change your mindset about traditional schooling and come to terms about what educating your child means. Until you figure that out, you'll be stuck wondering what the heck am I doing? Myself, along with other experienced homeschoolers STILL ask this question daily, but as long as we have a clear understanding of why we do this, then at least we have a reason to continue on and be successful at it. You know that song? "6 o'clock already I was just in the middle of a dream. I was kissing Valentino by a crystal blue Italian stream... It's just another manic Monday..." Okay, I know that's not all the words, but OMgosh! I really felt this way all day! Manic and crazy and rushing around like a wild woman, and can this sentence be more redundant? Wait, let me try... manic, panic, freaking out... yep, I don't know why I felt this way. I think next time I'm feeling manic I should stop and read what I write and take some of my own advice, take a DEEP breath, and change the view!
I'm off to put the kids to bed, I'll start again tomorrow with a new view and a new song. TM : ) Even when you don't feel like it (me), take a deep breath, and keep on going! Maybe a change of scenery for a new view. Yes, a new view is good and it is always inspiring for me to get fresh ideas that make me excited which of course always gets the kids going. So take a different route, maybe a new adventure will ensue. I'm going to! TM : )
"If you don't like something change it; if you can't change it, change the way you think about it." - Mary Engelbreit Every so often we need to step back and check out the view from another angle. When looking at something from the same perspective on a daily basis, sometimes we forget what the big picture view is and it doesn't seem very clear. Try stepping back. You might be surprised at how absolutely crystal clear the view really is. Have a great weekend! TM : )
What exactly are you looking for now that you're here? Is it a different view about homeschool? Is it an expert opinion on how homeschooling should be? Is it a question that you can't quite put your finger on, or is it the verbal pat on the back that is in my encouragement section? If you said "yes" to any of these, then you are in the right place! Wait a second, did I say "expert opinion"? Does homeschooling for almost 8 years count? What ever it is that you are looking for, I'm sure you'll find it here. If not, leave me a comment or fill out one of those form thingies and I'll get back to you as soon as I can. TM : )
Okay, you know what? I just figured out how to do this picture thing! Yea, I know I'm not the techiest, but I'm learning. Thought you might like this view of Kona. I'm not the best photographer, but I did get the hammock... see it on the right? TM : )
Sometimes, no matter how positive we can be, negative feelings can hit like an exploding bomb. I had a moment like that today. I need to remember that what I write on this blog is all about encouragement, no matter what the situation may be. I have to remember that we are all different and unique and that's what makes it so special. To the readers of AskTracy, I so appreciate that you take the time to visit. I'm always so thankful when you come back as it lets me know that you are interested in a "new view". TM : )
Inspiration and encouragement comes in many forms. My inspiration for this post came this morning after reading Tara's blog, Mom Teaches 2. I'm always trying to encourage my readers to have a new view, or take a deep breath, depending on what the day feels like. But being homeschoolers, we usually do both! Mahalo Tara for giving me a new view and for letting me take a deep breath. TM : )
Ever have one of those days when nothing seems to be going your way? Yep, I'm having one of those right now. Breathe Tracy, deep breath! Oldest is not responding to directions, youngest is upset and has a cold, my first post today disappeared with only a title showing... big breath, it will be okay. You know what? It will be okay. Think "new view", my youngest will get better, so will my oldest, and I'm going to have a glass of wine after they're in bed! TM : )
Growing, learning, changing. Which one comes first? Are you growing when you learn and then change comes? Or do you change because you're learning and with knowledge you grow? But yet another view would be if you learn then you change, and with change you grow. So which is it? I think there are no wrong answers. So why am I trying to confuse you and make your head spin? Because I'm here to give you a new view, and homeschool is exactly like these questions I gave you. Math, reading, writing. Which one comes first? Ha... Gotcha! There are many ways to teach your children, and there are no wrong answers. Only options. TM : )
